Bradford Daily Telegraph 6 Jan 1916 reported that Louis was “Wounded in action now at Cambridge Hospital, Aldershot. went out to the front August 1915. He immediately enlisted in the 1st Pals battalion PWO West Yorkshire Regiment in A company for about 12 months. He was transferred to the RFA 105th Brigade at his brothers request.”
 
Records show that Louis was discharged 27/8/1916 presumably due to the wounds mentioned in the article above.
 
The brother mentioned in the article was Bombardier 41504 Oscar Merle Garlick a Bradford Northern player. Oscar was also discharged on 10/1/1917 just a few months later than his brother.
